MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College students were treated to a Back to School Bash Aug. 28 thanks to the generosity and coordination of 22 churches from the surrounding Toombs-Montgomery area. The Mount Vernon campus held the first day of its fall semester Aug. 27.
The afternoon event featured “sweet treats” from each of the assembled churches, who filled up booths around the Gillis Gymnasium floor, inside the Snooks Student Activities Center. Students were also served their evening meal in the gym, and the evening ended for many by cooling off in the campus pool.

“I am very thankful for the participation of all of our local churches and their overwhelming generosity to our students,” said Rev. Glenn Wallace, campus minister and advisor to the campus’ Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM). “It is wonderful to see all of the churches come together for this event as they mingle and fellowship with each other and the students. This event is a great way to expose the students to the various churches in our area and the many ministries they can offer to the students. It is also a great opportunity for students to discover a place where they can serve if they are interested in some type of ministry.”
Participating area churches included Agape Live Fellowship Church of Vidalia, Tabernacle Baptist Church of Vidalia, Alston Baptist Church, Nepsey-Warren United Methodist Church of Ailey, Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Reidsville, Oakey Grove United Methodist Church of Lyons, Stuckey Baptist Church of Glenwood, Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and Ailey United Methodist Church.
Also, Long Pond United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, The Oaks Baptist Church of Vidalia, First African Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, Trinity Baptist Church of Vidalia, First Baptist Church of Vidalia, North Thompson Christian Learning Center of Vidalia, First Baptist Church of Lyons and First Baptist Church of Glenwood.
