Mount Vernon Bank Writing Fellowship open to BPC rising juniors
MOUNT VERNON—The Brewton-Parker College Division of Arts & Letters requests submissions for the Mount Vernon Bank (MVB) Writing Fellowship from full-time rising juniors enrolled at BPC’s main campus. Deadline for the essay-based fellowship is March 28, 2008.
The most accomplished essay on the theme of “Community is the shaping force in our lives” will be selected by a panel of judges comprised of BPC Division of Arts & Letters faculty along with a member of the Mount Vernon Bank organization. Essay submissions should reflect a high degree of technical proficiency, an accurate and inventive representation of the assigned theme and a strong presentation of community values.
Entries should be submitted to Dr. Vicki Hill in the BPC Writing Center. The winner will receive a $1,000 award at the Honors Day chapel service in April and will be required to serve fellow students by offering peer tutoring services a few hours per week in the campus’ Writing Center the following year.
“The MVB Writing Fellowship award gives us a great opportunity to recognize and reward students who excel in written expression. Writing is a skill we want to encourage in any way we can, and the generosity of Mr. Don Thigpen and MVB make it possible for us to aid a worthy student both financially and in terms of service to the college,” said Dr. Hill.
