MOUNT VERNON—Dr. David W. Moffett, Chair of the Education Division, was elected President-elect of the Georgia Association of Independent Colleges of Teacher Education (GAICTE) at their recent Annual Meeting in Atlanta. GAICTE is comprised of the 23 private colleges and universities in Georgia who offer Teacher Education programs. Dr. Moffett shall serve as President-elect through 2010 and then serve as President of GAICTE for a two-year term through 2012.
Dr. Moffett was also re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (GACTE) at their annual meeting last week as well. GACTE consists of all public and private colleges and universities offering Teacher Education programs. Dr. Moffett is the sole GACTE Board Member representing private Georgia colleges and universities.
“It is indeed an honor to represent Brewton-Parker College and the other 22 independent colleges and universities, as an Officer and Director of Georgia’s teacher education associations,” said Dr. Moffett. “With the new mandate of 20,000 new teachers each year being graduated from Georgia colleges and universities by the year 2020, it is a critical time for the private schools to be at the table and to be heard. I will do my utmost to ensure that the independent colleges and universities across Georgia play a substantial role in meeting the ‘20,000 by 2020’ mandate by working on increasing the number of teacher education graduates from our schools.”
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.
