MOUNT VERNON—The Lady Barons Soccer team, coached by Dan Robertson, has adopted a new team motto: Execution Not Excuses.

The Lady Barons started their 2009 preseason play with two scrimmages on the Mount Vernon campus last week: Aug. 18, 1-0 Brewton-Parker (against USC-Salkehatchie); and, Aug. 21, 1-3 Georgia Perimeter.
Coach Robertson looks to the loss on Friday’s game as an opportunity to improve before the season begins next week. Last year’s win-loss record was 3-12-1.
“The Lady Barons came out flat and didn’t execute as they should have,” says Robertson of his team. “The Goal for BPC was scored by Jerniel Nivet, her first of the year. We are looking at this scrimmage to show us what we did wrong and learn from our mistakes. It was a good loss and at the right time. I think it has shown us our need to put forth our best effort at all times, no matter what the circumstances are.”
“Our theme this year is Execution Not Excuses. As we look at that and see the results of the game, we take note that we lost for one simple reason: we simply didn’t execute the way we should have, and Georgia Perimeter did.”
Coach Robertson has brought in several new recruits and looks to build upon last year’s success. Notable recruits include Freshman Kelsey Black, an All Middle Georgia Player of the Year (2009) of Macon and Kaitlyn Barnard, also of Macon, who was an All State GISA Defender last year.
The team is comprised of the following student-athletes: juniors Kim Firth of England (13); Chelsea Milroy (11) of Cartersville; sophomores Mallory Lashley (1) of Guntersville, Ala., Desire’e Caton (2) of Palm Bay, Fla., Jerniel Nivet (3) of D’Abadie, Trinidad, Jalissa Johnson (4) of Vidalia, Afiya Castle (5) of Port of Spain, Trinidad, Mallory Williamson (6) of Vidalia; and, freshmen Anamecia Torres (7) of Hiedleburg, Germany, Kaitlyn Barnard (12) of Macon, Kelsey Black (24) of Macon, Stephanie Kaiser (19) of Brunswick, Rebecca Carley (9) of Michigan, Ashley Richardson (10) of Soperton and Anna Averitt (17) of East Dublin.
