Brewton-Parker College Baseball team (5-2, 0-0 SSAC) earned its second series victory of the season this weekend against Bryan College.  After dropping the first game 7-5 in a double header Saturday, Feb. 7, the Barons were able to bounce back with a 10-0 five inning victory in Game Two.

The Baron bats appeared ready to pick up where they left off the night before in Game One of the double header, with Blake Sanders reaching on a single, and then scoring on a wild pitch by Lions pitcher Mark Barnwell.  After that however, Barnwell settled down, and was able to keep the Barons from scoring into the seventh inning.  Chris Graves picked up the loss for the Barons giving up seven runs in 4-1/3 innings of work.

The Barons were able to make a game of it in the seventh.  After loading the bases, the Barons finally got into the Lions bullpen, and Brandon Stevens took a 1-1 fastball and hit it off the scoreboard to make it a 7-5 ballgame.  Unfortunately, it turned out to be too little too late, as two batters later, Kale Lewis grounded into a game-ending double play.

Game Two was a different story for the Barons as Ben Gillespie again performed well on the mound, going five innings and giving up only one hit.  The Barons scored early and often in this one, beating the Lions by a score of 10-0.  Kyle Smith drove in three runs in the first inning with a bases-loaded double to center.  Kale Lewis also drove in three on the day, going 2-3 with a double of his own.

The Barons’ games are broadcasted on the web. Go to http://www.myschoolstreams.com/schedule.php?sid=3 for more details.

The Barons’ next home game is Wednesday, Feb. 25 against Edward Waters College at 4 p.m. on Baron Field. The Barons’ first conference game will be Friday, Feb. 27 against Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.

Come out and support the Barons.
