BPC Division of Music continues NASM Accreditation
By Kelley M. Arnold
Interim Director of Marketing
The National Association of Schools of Music Commission on Accreditation voted to continue Brewton-Parker College’s Division of Music in “good standing”, reports Dr. Glenn Eernisse, chair of the college’s Division of Music.
“The reaffirmation of our accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Music is very significant,” Dr. Eernisse explains. “It means that students who graduate from Brewton-Parker with a major in music earn a degree that carries the NASM credential. It also means that the Division of Music meets the same high standards of quality as every other college or university in the nation accredited by NASM does. We should be very proud of the music faculty and the hard work they have done to make this possible.”
Dr. David R. Smith, BPC president, praises the division and looks forward to its continued excellence among schools of music in the nation.
“To gain reaffirmation through any discipline-specific accrediting association is significant, but NASM’s standards are of such rigor and international reputation that this is truly special. I congratulate the hard work of Dr. Eernisse and his very talented and committed faculty and staff, as well as all of those who worked with the Division of Music throughout the College,” said Dr. Smith. “Their fine efforts really paid off, and our students will benefit for years to come.”
As a member of NASM, BPC is responsible for participating in all revisions and additions to the standards as well as maintaining its curricular programs in music current with NASM standards as these are developed. The college’s accreditation is active through the 2016-2017 academic year.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.
