Balanced Barons Take Down Reinhardt Eagles
Waleska, Ga. -- In a Southern States Athletic Conference contest on Monday night, the Brewton-Parker College men's basketball squad travelled to Reinhardt College and earned a hard fought 94-87 victory at the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center.
Reinhardt built an early 10-point advantage to take a 22-12 lead. After a BPC timeout, the Barons stormed back on the strength of their half court trap which forced three Eagle turnovers during the 8-0 run. The remainder of the half was a back and forth battle that ended in a 40-40 tie.
In the second half, the Barons used a balanced scoring attack and forced the Eagles into 13 turnovers to pull away for their fifth victory in their last seven games. Eddie Dixon poured in 17 points on 8-12 shooting and led five Barons who scored in double figures. Jamaal Mills connected on 5 of 10 shots for 16 points off the bench. Jurbien Byrd (15 points), Brandon Barron (14 points and 9 assists), and Dontae Fedrick (13 points) rounded out the double digit scorers. Dustin Jeffords had an outstanding game contributing 9 points and 10 rebounds while drawing 4 charges.
Reinhardt drops to 8-10 overall and 2-7 in SSAC play while the Barons move to 5-14 overall and 4-6 in the conference. Brewton-Parker returns to the hardwood to host an SSAC contest against Emmanuel College this Saturday, January 31st. Tipoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. in the Gillis Arena.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.
