MOUNT VERNON – Brewton-Parker College hosted two Fellowship of Christian Athlete-sponsored athletic camps on its Mount Vernon campus last week.

Head Women’s Soccer Coach Dan Robertson led a soccer camp and Head Women’s Basketball Coach DeCole Shoemate led a girl’s basketball camp from high school teams in the region. The FCA camps combine excellence in athletics with a heart for the Kingdom of Christ in their leadership-building programs.

Coach Robertson and Coach Shoemate were also worship speakers. Candice Close, BPC Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, is proud of the opportunity for BPC to participate with the FCA organization.

“Having the FCA Basketball Camp (at BPC) gives the visiting teams the opportunity to enter into a Christian environment and see Brewton-Parker for what it really is – a Baptist institution. With this exposure, we are hoping players who are seeking Christ will come to us,” said Close. “Being able to connect with the players spiritually has been a blessing. After we finish the physical activities for the day, we all join together as one and worship during our devotional time. Through this, we are able to develop personal relationships and really minister God’s word.”

According to H. Lee Cheek Jr., BPC Vice President for College Advancement who oversees BPC Athletics, “fourteen young persons made a public decision to follow Jesus Christ in their lives during the worship services.”
