BPC Education Chair selected to Distance-Learning Task Force

Dr. David Moffett |
MOUNT VERNON—Dr. David W. Moffett, Chair of the Education Division at Brewton-Parker College, has been selected to serve on the Georgia Professional Standards (PSC) Distance-Learning Task Force, announced Dr. Ronald T. Melton, BPC provost.
“Dr. Moffett has a depth of experience in on-line education, which will be invaluable to the PSC in establishing best practices, effective evaluation and a high standard of quality for these courses,” said Dr. Melton.
The task force will meet regularly in Atlanta to discuss and examine best practices and policies in online teaching and learning in teacher education programs. Dr. Moffett’s nomination for serving on the Distance Learning Task Force was offered by members of the Georgia Association of Independent Colleges of Teacher Education (GAICTE) to PSC at its spring meeting in March.
“As education programs continue to implement more online learning, it is critical to have people in place to evaluate the quality and rigor of such programs so we can successfully avoid the ‘commoditization’ of higher education,” said Dr. Moffett. “Who would have ever imagined that our competition for potential students at such places like our Norman Park campus would be online programs based in Iowa? This is already happening and will continue to occur more in the future. Changes in higher education are happening faster than we can know.
“My twelve years of experience developing and teaching online education courses will complement my selection to the task force and I look forward to serving the state and all of Georgia’s teacher education programs.”
Dr. Moffett also serves as President-elect of GAICTE and is the independent college representative on the Board of the Georgia Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (GACTE).
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four year Christian college in south Georgia. Affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, BPC offers bachelor and associate degree programs at its main campus in Mount Vernon and three external locations in Liberty County, Newnan and Norman Park.
