Randy Hamrick |
MOUNT VERNON—The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Brewton-Parker College right-handed pitcher Randy Hamrick in the 19th round of the 2009 First-Year Players Draft June 10.
Hamrick, a 6’2”, 195 lbs. fifth year senior from Vero Beach, Fla., was the Barons’ ace all season, said Head Coach Greg “Boo” Mullins. Hamrick led the team with a 2.80 ERA, and led the conference with 99 strikeouts in the regular season.
When asked about being drafted by the Diamondbacks, Randy said, "I'm ecstatic. I can't believe it. I've been waiting for this my whole life. My Dad was there to give me a big hug, which is kind of a big deal because he used to play minor league [baseball] for the Dodgers. Of course I called Coach Mullins right afterwards because I wouldn't be here without all of his support."
Randy will be reporting to Arizona shortly, where he will be given his league assignment. Check the BPC website for more details, and to follow Randy's progress: http://www.bpc.edu/athletics/baseball/baseball.htm.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four year Christian college in south Georgia. Affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, BPC offers bachelor and associate degree programs at its main campus in Mount Vernon and three external locations in Liberty County, Newnan and Norman Park.
