BPC offers special topics class for aspiring writers
MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Division of Arts & Letters presents a special topics English course for community members interested in learning more about publishing works of fiction, said Dr. Thom Brucie, assistant professor of English and creative writing.
ENG/CRW 350 Special Topics “Short Story Writing for Publication” will explore the world of publishing.
“This class is designed for writers who are already writing stories and/or novels and who want to learn the ropes of publishing. It is an introductory class in the variety of journals available to writers, including genre journals and small presses. We will also discuss agents and big publishing houses,” said Dr. Brucie.
Course work will include research into markets, agents and publishers, and will include discussions of how to write cover letters and make electronic submissions.
The class will be held Thursday evenings during the spring 2010 semester from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $150 for anyone wishing to take the class for non-credit. Spring 2010 begins Monday, January 11.
