BPC Family enjoys Alumni Weekend April 16-17

MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s Office of Alumni Relations reports about 100 alumni and friends of the college attended this year’s Alumni Weekend, held on the Mount Vernon campus over the weekend, April 16-17.
The spring flowers, azalea bushes and numerous native blooming trees created a beautiful and serene backdrop for the reunion of former BPC students and a rekindling of their memories.
Annual Alumni Awards and inductions into the BPC Athletic Hall of Fame were also celebrated during this special weekend. This year’s winners are: Alumna of the Year, Maria Sasser (‘96); Ministerial Alumnus of the Year, Robert Anderson (’64); Friend of the Year, Bill Brown (posthumous); Young Alumna of the Year, Millie Holder Price (’97); Music Alumna of the Year, Darlene Thrift Collins (’75); and Hall of Fame Inductees Katharine “KC” Cheshire (’05), Chuck Litvaney (’55) and Michael Mulling (’75).

The Alumni Society Award ceremony was held in Gilder Recital Hall. A special musical presentation by Music Alumna of the Year Darlene Thrift Collins, a pianist, complimented the moving ceremony. The Memorial Service honored 21 current and former students and friends of the college who had passed since they had last gathered for Alumni Weekend 2009. The congregation then joined in singing “When I Survey the Wonderous Cross”.

Saturday’s campus events also included the Spring Math & Science Festival, the Montgomery County Historic Village Spring Fling, baseball and softball games and the Miss BPC Pageant. Crystal Belue Adams, a freshman General Business major, was crowned the 2010 Miss BPC.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia. Affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, BPC’s main campus is located in Mount Vernon and has an external learning site in Newnan.
