MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College graduate, Doug Logan, ’03, was named a state finalist in the Missouri Teacher of the Year 2010 competition, after being named the 2010 Teacher of the Year for his school district, Carl Junction R-1.
Logan is an Early American History teacher for eighth graders at Carl Junction Junior High in Carl Junction. He earned his bachelor of science in secondary broadfield social science education at BPC. While at BPC, he student taught at Vidalia High in 2003. Logan was the recipient of Brewton-Parker College’s History Award given by the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Logan states, “I am one of those crazy teachers who happen to think that my job is just plain fun. I do not know how many times I have remarked to my students, their parents, or folks in general that I cannot believe I actually get paid to do what I do. When I reflect a bit deeper, I am reminded of the words of one of my Education professors: ‘Teaching is a calling; if you are not called to teach, you should not be here.’”
“I believe I’m called to be a teacher… Fortunately for me, the call to teach happens to be a blast!”
At Carl Junction Junior High, Logan serves at the yearbook editor/staff advisor for grades 7-8 and is the Field Announcer for the Bulldog Marching Band of Carl Junction High School. From 2005-2008, he led the Carl Junction Junior High American History Trip over the summers, which traversed the country to places such as Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Collinsville, Ill., to the White House in the nation’s capitol to The Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia, Pa., among dozens of other important cultural and historical landmarks. He earned his master’s in American History from Pittsburg State University (Kansas) this year.
Logan is also the 2010 Secondary Teacher of the Year for Carl Junction Chamber of Commerce.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in South Georgia.
