BPC welcomes new members to Board of Trustees

MOUNT VERNON—The Brewton-Parker College Board of Trustees welcomed eight new members to its 31-member board Jan. 21, announced Dr. David R. Smith, BPC president.
The new BPC Board of Trustees are Rick Brown of Macon, Faye Dyches of Savannah, Bill Grant of Washington, Ga., Philip Palmer of Savannah, Dr. Tony Romans of Dunwoody, Dr. Billy Moses of Dublin, Jimmy Michaels of Macon and Weyman Perry of Lawrenceville.
Perry will serve a term expiring in 2011 and Dr. Billy Moses’ term will expire in 2012. The other members will serve terms expiring in 2014.
Rick Brown is a former BPC trustee, serving from 2000-2004. He and his wife, Renee, reside in Macon where he is president of Rick Brown & Associates, LLC, a financial planning firm. He and his wife are members of Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon. A graduate of Mercer University with a bachelor of arts in political science and a juris doctorate from the Walter F. George School of Law, Brown is a past chairman of the board of The Christian Index, and a member of the Christian Legal Society and the National Lawyers Association.

“As a Brewton-Parker College trustee, I hope to increase the college’s base of financial support from individual donors. With such increased financial support Brewton-Parker will be able to provide even more students with an excellent college education,” said Brown.
Faye Dyches is married to Donald E. Dyches Sr., and they are members of Calvary in Savannah. A homemaker, Dyches is a graduate of Savannah High School, past chairman of the Chatham County Christian Women’s Club and served on the Board of Living Vine Crisis Pregnancy Home.
“As a Brewton-Parker College trustee I would do all I can to maintain the great reputation of Brewton-Parker College and hope to see it become an even more dynamic source of Christian education,” said Dyches.
Bill Grant is also a former trustee. His father, William F. Grant, is a BPC alum. The executive vice president of the F&M Bank in Washington, Ga., he and his wife, Melissa, attend the First Baptist Church of Washington. Grant is a member of Kiwanis International and a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science in Industrial Management.

James “Jimmy” D. Michael is a self-employed architect. He and his wife, Julie, are members of Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon. Michael graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor of architecture and is a member of the American Institute of Architects and Gideon’s International.
“Like the writer of the book Hebrews (12:1-2), I set to claim these words (as a BPC trustee), ‘… and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus’,” said Michael.
Dr. Billy Moses is a general surgeon who practices out of Southern Surgical in Dublin.
Philip B. Palmer and his wife, Regina, are members of Southside Baptist Church in Savannah, where he holds several positions including Sunday school teacher and member of the Finance Committee. Palmer is a graduate of Yale University and holds an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is a principal at Chatham Capital Group, an investment management firm in Savannah.

“As a Brewton-Parker College trustee, I hope to keep the school on a path of academic excellence, financial strength and growing influence in the communities it serves,” said Palmer.
Weyman W. Perry is vice president of business development for Visiting Nurse Health System, Inc. in Lawrenceville. He and his wife, Susan, are members of North Metro First Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. A graduate of Carson Newman College with a bachelor’s degree in business management, Perry is a current board member of Aging Services of Georgia and a past board member of Gwinnett Pregnancy Resource Center. He is a prior trustee of the Georgia Baptist Foundation.
“The leadership at BPC has indicated to me a need to have additional business skills within its Board of Trustees. I pray that the skills I do have will be of benefit to this excellent organization,” said Perry.

Dr. Tony Romans and his wife, Nancy, are members of North Peachtree Baptist Church in Dunwoody, where he serves as Senior Pastor. His daughter, Jordan Romans, is a BPC alumna. Dr. Romans holds a bachelor of arts in Biblical Studies from Criswell Bible College, a master’s in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate of ministry from Covington Theological Seminary.
“As a Brewton-Parker College trustee, I am excited to work with Dr. Smith and the entire faculty to graduate students from every discipline with a thoroughly Biblical World View – students who know the Savior and the scripture as well as their field of study,” said Dr. Romans.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in South Georgia. Affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, BPC’s main campus is located in Mount Vernon and it has an external center in Newnan.
