McAllister Hall Dedication draws on fond memories, family support

  Brewton-Parker College held a Dedication of the renovated McAllister Hall Thursday, Oct. 21. Among those honored were family members of Pearl McAllister Moses, the first female graduate of Brewton-Parker College in 1907, then called Union Baptist Institute. UBI offered a curriculum for grades 1-11. McAllister Hall was named in her honor during a Founders Day ceremony at the college, April 28, 1967.

Thomases endow Christian Studies scholarship at BPC

  Brewton-Parker College recently received a $60,000 endowed scholarship for Christian Studies majors from Maurice and Anne Thomas of Toccoa Falls, reports Norman Winter, Vice President for College Advancement.

12 teams vie for best chili at cook-off this Saturday

  Brewton-Parker College’s 3rd Annual Chili Cook-off this Saturday is set to be another fun family event on the Mount Vernon campus, said BPC Women’s Fellowship chair Jackie Smith. The cook-off, a fundraiser organized by the BPC Women’s Fellowship, will help the college purchase a new electronic sign for the campus and community.

BPC Education Division Chair installed as GAICTE president

  Brewton-Parker College’s Education Division Chair, Dr. David W. Moffett, was installed as President of the Georgia Association of Independent Colleges of Teacher Education (GAICTE) Oct. 8 at the annual Georgia Association of Teacher Educators (GATE) annual meeting in Atlanta. Dr. Moffett will serve as President for a two-year term.

BPC Education faculty to present scholarly papers at GERA

  Six Brewton-Parker Education Division faculty members have had their scholarly papers accepted for presentation at the 35th Annual Meeting of the Georgia Educational Research Association (GERA) at the Georgia Coastal Conference Center, Savannah, on October 22 and 23, 2010.  Papers submitted to GERA are rigorously reviewed and evaluated for scholarly quality by readers who are blind to the authors’ names and locations.

Elizabeth Baker receives GFIC scholarship

  BPC freshman Elizabeth Baker is the recipient of the 2010-2011 Georgia Foundation for Independent Colleges (GFIC) Trustees Endowment Fund Scholarship. Baker was notified of her selection of the scholarship earlier this semester, said Shannon Mullins, Director of Financial Aid.

Historic Village hosts MCMS eighth graders

  On Friday, October 8, about 85 eighth graders from Montgomery County Middle School accompanied their teacher, Carol Morris, to the Historic Village at Brewton-Parker College.  The visit enhanced the students’ studies in Georgia history, which Mrs. Morris teaches.

  Brewton-Parker College will host the 17th biannual Math & Science Festival Saturday, Oct. 23 in the college’s Morgan-Moses Building on its Mount Vernon campus from 9:30 a.m to noon.

BPC Rocket Blast-off launches high flyers thanks to clear skies

 

This year’s annual Rocket Blast-off saw clear skies and high-flying rockets. Seven kids built model rockets. “Each and every child successfully launched their rockets to an altitude of about 300 feet,” said Dr. Christopher Jones, BPC chemistry professor and event organizer.

Christian Laettner works with kids, BPC Basketball team at clinics

  Brewton-Parker College’s Men’s Basketball Team hosted former NBA player and Duke super-star Christian Laettner Saturday, Sept. 25 at a sold-out special skills and leadership building clinic for local school kids. The clinic’s enrollment maxed at 50 kids.
