Sen. Williams leads Constitution Day discussion at BPC

Senator Tommie Williams

MOUNT VERNON—Georgia Senate Majority Leader Sen. Tommie Williams (R-Lyons) spoke at a special presentation at Brewton-Parker College for Constitution Day, Friday, Sept. 17. Dr. Ron Melton, BPC Provost, said Sen. Williams was chosen to speak at the event – which highlighted and educated attendees on the U.S. Constitution – because of his “keen understanding of both state and national constitutions.” Senator Williams spoke to an intimate gathering of students, faculty and staff in the Cyber Café on the Mount Vernon campus. Barons Head Men’s Basketball Coach John D. Jones, an attendee, said, “Sen. Williams talked about a recent trip to Europe, and contrasted the European model with our own. I came away more convinced than ever that despite our problems we are blessed to live under the best system of government in the world.” Constitution Day is held annually on the Brewton-Parker College campus. Sen. Tommie Williams serves as President Pro Tempore, and represents the 19th Senate District, which includes Appling, Jeff Davis, Long, Montgomery, Toombs, Wayne, and Wheeler counties and a portion of Liberty and Tattnall counties.  Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in South Georgia.
