MOUNT VERNON –Brewton-Parker College moved forward with a much-needed paving project behind Gates Hall this week thanks to the generosity of several businesses, which donated in-kind services, equipment and labor, said Interim Vice President for College Advancement Jessica James.
“This project would not have been possible without the help of Ellis Wood Contracting Company of Statesboro, Reeves Construction of Macon, C&C Concrete & Grading of Keysville, Willie Wooden, Georgia-Carolina Paving Company of Augusta, and the assistance of John Roller of Mount Vernon, Greg Coursey (BPC Housing Director) and Ben Hamilton (BPC Plant Operations Director),” said James.

The four-day project began Saturday, July 23 with a clean-up of the roadway, and then resumed Monday, July 25 with a projected completion date of Wednesday, July 27. This area has longtime been an eyesore and is a reported hazard to pedestrians traveling over the deteriorated roadway.
“I thank each person working on this project for their support, connections and assistance. This is a much-needed gift in-kind to Brewton-Parker College,” said James.
Roller’s business relationship with Dan Garcia, Vice President of Operations at Reeves Construction, allowed the college to purchase 286 tons of asphalt at a hefty discount. Coursey’s longtime family connection with Charles Green of C & C Concrete & Grading was generous enough to donate equipment and labor almost free of charge. Ellis Wood of Ellis Wood Contracting Company donated the transportation of the asphalt from Statesboro to Brewton-Parker. Hamilton and his staff prepared the roadway for paving.
