Farewell Chapel for BPC outgoing president, Dr. Smith

MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College Trustee Chairman Dr. Tony Romans and Vice Chairman Gary Campbell presented outgoing president Dr. David R. Smith with two special gifts during the Feb. 22 Chapel.
The student body, faculty and staff gave Dr. Smith a standing ovation following the reading of a Trustees Resolution regarding Dr. Smith’s outstanding service to Brewton-Parker for the last 13 years. Campbell presented Dr. Smith with a crystal statue of commemoration.

Dr. Smith’s last day at the college was Feb. 28. He leaves BPC to accept the chairmanship of a Christian studies master’s degree program at Dallas Baptist University to begin April 1. Dr. Mike Simoneaux of Truett-McConnell College begins March 2 as the college’s acting president.

The Feb. 22 Chapel was presented by BPC’s Student Government Association. SGA President Josh McPhatter opened the service in prayer, inviting all present to join hands and recite “The Lord’s Prayer” “as one body in Christ”. Joshua Johnson and his band led in worship and praise music. E’Quain Rhodes gave his personal testimony. Ryan Shipp gave the message, challenging everyone to daily chose to follow God. He asked the student body, “Does Jesus know you as his own?” (Matt. 7:21-23).
Chapel is held each Tuesday at Brewton-Parker in Saliba Chapel at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
Affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south Georgia.
