Volleyball Qualifies For SSAC Post-Season Tournament
MOUNT VERNON— It was an amazing weekend as the Barons rallied to take the 4th seed in the eastern division by defeating two SSAC teams in one day. First, the Barons traveled to Brenau University having to win to stay alive. Brewton-Parker was set for the challenge against the team that they were trailing to make the playoffs. The Barons defeated Brenau in a three-game sweep. Jessica Hill tallied 14 kills, Emily Wood 11, and Jeune Hypolite had 13 for the victory. Bobbi Boyer collected 36 assists and Gracie Henderson added 22 receptions in this match. The back row passed the ball as well as they have all year and the front row just kept the pressure on for the sweep.
Immediately following this match the Barons boarded the van and traveled to Franklyn Springs, GA to play Emmanuel. Emmanuel now facing the BPC Barons in a winner take all match. BPC fought and clawed their way to the victory to win 3 games to 2. Led by Jessica Hill with 21 kills, Jeune Hypolite's 13 kills and 19 digs, and Emily Wood's 11 kills the Barons completed the victory that will send them to the SSAC playoffs. Bobbi Boyer collected 38 assists and 23 digs in the victory. Desiree Kendrick added 17 digs and 37 receptions.
"I can’t say enough about this team and the heart they exhibited over the weekend. Facing a close to their season they just stepped up and would not be denied a shot in the postseason. We have struggled all year with putting teams away. We have been in really close games, playing nationally ranked opponents to 23-23 at times, not to mention many other teams, but seemed to find a way to beat ourselves. But not this day, the girls just were focused and I know the Baron Nation is proud of them," said Coach Bryant.
