Who says you can’t have fun in the library?

MOUNT VERNON—When describing a library, one usually pictures an eerily silent room filled with ancient, dust-covered books and a woman in a tight bun who runs around constantly shushing students. In Brewton-Parker’s Fountain-New Library, this is a misconception. Their motto is “Who says you can’t have fun in the library?” School can be rough. Sometimes, students just need a break, a change of scenery, a chance to relax and recharge their batteries. The Fountain-New library provides a cozy haven that caters to each of these needs and more.
In addition to over 100,000 of the best academic volumes, a competent, friendly, and reliable staff – each with a masters in library science – and a fully equipped technology lab, the Fountain-New Library fosters a pleasant atmosphere, encouraging students to be themselves, to kick back and share some laughs while studying or just hanging out with friends in the designated areas, furnished with comfy lounge chairs and long tables, that suit every student’s studying needs.
For students who need a little extra help, the staff is more than happy to assist. “Our job is to help students,” states Steve Richards, Reference Assistant. “Without them, we wouldn’t be here.”
“The library is the best place on campus to work,” says Reese Simmons, Circulations Assistant, “It’s pleasant, and we can interact with the students in a friendly environment.”
The library is a great place to meet with student tutors and hold study groups in a comfortable and safe environment. Also, students looking to escape the hustle and bustle around campus can choose a novel or magazine from their selection of leisure reading and retreat to the quiet study rooms located in the back of the library.
“We don’t bite,” assures Steve Richards. “I believe that you can have fun in the library, and I enjoy working one-on-one with the kids.”
