MOUNT VERNON— Brewton Parker coaches and staff gathered in the legendary Hall of Fame room in Gillis Gym to witness the launch of a new Barons sport on Wednesday, Sep. 28th. Spring 2012 will bring a new and exciting sports season to Brewton-Parker College. With the support of Team Georgia, USA Wrestling, and the Wrestling Hall of Fame sponsors, the BPC athletic program will now offer wrestling.
“This is a great opportunity for our school and our Christian mission,” announced President Simoneaux. “The coaches want to show the responsibility of honoring the Lord, and wrestling can be a part of that.”
Becoming the fourth college program–and the third NAIA program – for wrestling in Georgia, everyone is anticipating the start of this new sport in hopes that it will raise Brewton-Parker's fame and strengthen the bonds within the local community. With the search already underway to hire a new wrestling coach, the school can expect a storm of opportunities as students prepare to suit up and wrestle their way through tournaments, both at the state and national level.
“We are committed through the year to support Brewton-Parker College,” assures Anthony Flatt, Chairman of Team Georgia, USA Wrestling. “My passion is wrestling, and I want it in every school. The support for wrestling in this area has grown tremendously.”
“We are behind this all the way,” says Coach Shelia Simmons. “We have been looking for ways to expand the athletics at BPC, and because of the support in the area, wrestling is a no brainer.”

The mission of Brewton-Parker College, a Georgia Baptist college, is to develop the whole student through the application of Biblically-centered truth to a liberal arts curriculum in a community of shared Christian values.
