MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker faculty and students assembled in the Briscoe, located across the street from the campus, to celebrate our nation’s annual Constitution Day on the night of Thursday, September 15th. Upon beginning the event, Dr. Melton, a distinguished professor of History, led the group in prayer, and Roger Byrd, professor of Political Sciences, introduced the two visiting speakers.
Donnie Dixon, a practicing attorney from Savannah, gave a brief explanation on the history of the constitution and its importance as the “supreme law” of our country. “We are always going to disagree,” Dixon informed his listeners. “We resolve our disagreements through the law. And, the constitution provides the guidelines.”

David Simons, a Lieutenant Colonel in the National Guard, spoke of his experiences while fighting to preserve our freedom in the armed Special Forces. “We proudly serve, because that is our calling,” he stated. “I believe in freedom, our constitution, and humanity.”
Brewton-Parker’s Historical Society hosted the event and plans to offer more like it. Each opportunity will be advertized in various locations around campus, and everyone is encouraged to come take part in the learning and fellowship.
