MOUNT VERNON— The Brewton-Parker College Athletic Department is proud to announce the appointment of Kim Anderson as the institution’s new Lady Barons Head Basketball Coach.
Brewton-Parker’s Athletic Director, Sheila Simmons, is delighted with Anderson’s appointment. "Coach Anderson comes to BPC with a wealth of knowledge and experience. She is a great fit for our Christ-centered mission. She is a hard worker and a quality professional. We are looking forward to seeing the women’s basketball program flourish under her leadership,” says Simmons.
Coach Anderson comes to Brewton-Parker from Concordia College in Selma, Alabama, where she was the head women’s basketball coach. While at Concordia College, she led the Lady Hornets in winning the USCAA National Championship in Uptown, Pennsylvania. She has also coached at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama, and Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Coach Anderson played basketball at Claflin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. She also played professional women’s basketball in Valencia, Italy, and later returned back to the U.S. to further her education at Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she earned a master’s in education leadership.
“I am overwhelmed and honored to join the Brewton-Parker Family,” says Anderson. “I know that God led me in this direction. I could tell when I came here that the administration is very serious about the success of the student athletes on and off the court. I want my character as a Christian and the character of the team to define our reputation. I feel a team should be built on Christ first, then family, education, and respect. It is my goal to provide the necessary support any student athlete would need to be successful and create a positive image for the college and community.”
Coach Anderson is married to Tommy Anderson who played professional basketball for seventeen years in Argentina. She also has a son named Kelvin M. Pooler who attends Texas Southern University in Houston.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college in south of Macon and north of Jacksonville, FL.
