MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker College held its annual Miss BPC Pageant on Saturday evening, Feb. 11. Eight young ladies, each a picture of grace and beauty, competed for the crown and a chance to represent the college in community service and outreach events during her yearlong reign as Miss BPC.
The pageant consisted of a sports-and-evening-wear competition and an on-stage interview. As the girls were judged on beauty, poise, and eloquence, mistress of ceremonies and former Miss BPC 2011, Marla Hollis, took her final walk across the stage waving to her supporters. Following the judging, Hollis crowned junior Lisa Taylor Miss BPC 2012 as friends and family cheered from the crowd.
Runners up were: 3rd place, Ima Petion, 2nd place, Myana Love, and 1st runner up and winner of the People’s Choice award, Brittany VanHorn. The Price Spirit Award, given to the contestant who attends all required rehearsals prior to the pageant, displays a Christian attitude and kindness to others at the rehearsals, and is not selected in the top four contestant winners was awarded to Kenyarda Durden. Awards for Best Interview and Most Photogenic went to winner Lisa Taylor.
Other contestants included: Jessica Whittaker-Gillis, Keosha Lee, and Aliya Thomas. The pageant directors were Lana Graham, Rhonda Graham, and Millie Price. Special guests included BPC President Mike Simoneaux, who gave the Invocation, and musical entertainment was provided by a student band called the Pinto Group. As tradition would have it, the ceremony was a success, and the girls had a lovely time.
