MOUNT VERNON— Around 25-30 students attended the FCA Spring Kick-Off hosted by the Baron’s Athletic Program on Wednesday evening, February 1st. Through the combined efforts of the coaches and student members, everyone enjoyed fellowship, games, and creative mime entertainment. Following a brief sermon by FCA Director of Marketing & Public Relations Joshua B. McPhatter, students were encouraged to live above the world’s influence and to seek God’s influence in their lives.
“The FCA Spring Kick-off was very successful in the eyes of our leadership team,” responded Joshua McPhatter. “It embodied what our campus ministry is all about, which is creating a good worship and learning experience. Our goal is to get to know Jesus in a real and deeper way. I was humbled to minister at our first event of the semester, and I’m hopeful that this ministry will continue to grow.”
“The FCA kick-Off went well,” enthused President Shantel Thompson. ”I think the students enjoyed it because it was different and engaging. We are ready to offer the campus something that is real and fun. My goal is to make Jesus real to the campus because so many times Christianity is viewed as a fairy-tale life style. Our ultimate goal for FCA is to love others; God will bless us with the rest.”
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the largest campus ministry in the world. Their mission is to impact the world for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches. Their goal is to involve college students in small group discussions and studies of scripture, to involve the community in supporting the athletes and the school’s mission, and to facilitate a positive Christian attitude towards life.
