MOUNT VERNON— The Brewton-Parker College Competitive Cheerleading All Girl Squad competed at CCA Nationals last weekend and took home the second place division trophy. They put on their best smiles, giving an energetic 2-1/2 minute performance. The girls have made major progress throughout the year, and it shows; they increased their total team score by 39 points at Nationals this year.
A younger group from the squad joined forces to compete as a stunt group, giving their all in executing spectacular lifts, tumbles, and dancing. Collin Roney, Rebecca Cole, Myana Love, and Jonet Freeman, all freshmen, joined with sophomore Vanricka Rose. They took on four other college teams and secured a 2nd place National trophy in the college division.
Head Coach Kim Lajiness proudly proclaimed, “We have a very young and talented squad. The Competitive Cheerleading program looks very bright at Brewton-Parker College. I am so proud of each and every one of them. They have united as a squad and it shows on the floor.”
Interested in joining the squad and heading BPC spirit? Next year's tryouts will be held on April 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gillis Gymnasium. Tryout information can be found at www.bpc.edu/studentlife/student_organizations/cheerleading.htm. |
