MOUNT VERNON— The Brewton-Parker College Athletic Department is proud to announce the appointment of Brewton-Parker alum, Gavin Chapman, as the new Lady Barons Assistant Basketball Coach and Assistant Director of Basketball Operations.
A May 2011 graduate of Brewton-Parker, Chapman holds a degree in sport and fitness with a minor in coaching. While at BPC, he played shooting guard his first three years under the direction of former coaches Steve Barker and John Jones. He served as assistant coach and head men’s junior varsity coach during his senior year.
Chapman comes to BPC after holding a position as graduate assistant for the Exercise and Sport Science Department at Eastern Kentucky University. While there, he majored in sports administration and graduated a year later in May 2012. Chapman also had the opportunity to intern for the operations department at the University of Florida for the summer of 2012.
“While here I mainly want to focus on improvement - improvement in myself each day, as well as helping to improve the basketball team and athletic program each day,” says Chapman. “My goal is to eventually work primarily with athletic operations and progress into athletic administration.”
Brewton-Parker’s Athletic Director, Sheila Simmons, is excited to have Chapman on board.
“Gavin was a model student-athlete as an undergraduate at BPC. He made a tremendous impact on the men’s basketball program both on the court and in the classroom. Gavin was known as a prolific three-point shooter while maintaining academic excellence. He was named to several All-Conference Academic teams and helped his teams to reach the playoffs. Gavin is an excellent role model and we are excited to have a talented former graduate to give back to BPC.”
The first Lady Barons first home game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. against Voorhees College.
