“If you were to define success today, how would you define it,” Dr. Larry Wynn asked in the opening of his message to the September 25, 2012 Brewton-Parker chapel service. He continued his message to the chapel congregation by reading Luke 12:13-15. As Wynn defined success from a Biblical perspective, he gave students three things to remember:

  • Success is based on God, not gain.
  • Success is giving, not receiving.
  • Success is about building relationships, not acquiring resources.

Wynn pointed out that the church exists to meet others’ needs during his second point, while under his third point he talked about how family is never mentioned in a positive manner in this scripture passage. He said that the nameless man in the crowd only saw his brother as a way for financial gain. Because of this Wynn told his listeners to, “Love people, and not things.”

Dr. Larry Wynn is one of the North American Mission Board’s vice presidents. He serves more specifically over NAMB’s Evangelism and Leadership Development Group.

Earlier in the chapel service, Dr. Tim Searcy, BPC Vice President for Academic Services, led the students in worship by playing the piano and singing. He selected traditional hymns for the congregation to sing.
