MOUNT VERNON— BPC began its 108th academic year on August 28 with its annual celebratory Convocation Chapel. This special chapel service celebrates and honors the new students who keep the school growing and thriving. It also serves to honor the faculty who teach, guide, and mentor each student during their academic career at BPC.
Outside, the freshmen were welcomed into the BPC family with cheers, clapping, and high-fives. Inside, a show of reverence was given as students silently rose to their feet to honor the faculty. Zeke Addison, Associate Professor of Art, served as this year’s Processional Marshall.
In place of one main message, Dr. Tim Searcy, Vice-President for Academic Services, Dr. Charlie Bass, Vice President of Student Services, and BPC President Dr. Mike Simoneaux each gave a brief testimony. Erica Branch, a member of First Baptist Church of Vidalia, sang “I Know My Redeemer Lives” as the chapel’s special music.
Dr. Jeff Audirsch gave the invocation, while Dr. Jerry Ray gave the benediction. Dr. David Wilson, Assistant Professor of Music, also led the congregation in “To God Be the Glory” before the students were dismissed.
Brewton-Parker College, once a high school and a two-year college, is proud to begin another academic year. Expect great things to happen during 2012-2013 at BPC.
