MOUNT VERNON—A rare treat awaited anyone who ventured onto Brewton-Parker’s front lawn Saturday, April 13, as Circle K hosted their first annual international festival. Seventeen different countries were represented by BPC students during this event. The festival started at 1 p.m. and lasted until 5 p.m., and roughly 150 people wandered around the world during the four hour event.

A stage set up on the east side of the lawn held a variety of rotating performers. Dr. Don Wallace, BPC Professor of Communications, played both his guitar and harmonica. BPC’s Glimpses of Truth performed two skits. Other students sang, a small group performed a soccer dance in the middle of the field, and there were demonstrations of both salsa dancing and a traditional Caribbean-style dance.

Different tables were set up and decorated based on the countries they represented. Guatemala featured a hammock in their backdrop. Two girls representing the Bahamas offered free hair braiding, while across the field in India visitors could have henna-ink painted onto their skin for a temporary tattoo. Many other tables offered samples of their country’s traditional food, drinks, and toys. All the tables were manned by students prepared to answer questions about their home countries or the countries they claimed heritage from.
