MOUNT VERNON— Efton Green, pastor of Calvary on Aimwell of Vidalia, spoke at Brewton-Parker’s November 4 chapel service. “If there is one thing that I could leave you with, it’s this: you have great value,” Green stated in his opening. He based his sermon around Matthew 6:21-23, where Jesus compares Peter to Satan.

“In this passage, Peter was saying, ‘No, Jesus, this is not what I want’,” Green stated. “I’m not going to tell you today that God will not do something you don’t like.” He went on to teach that people need to trust God through adversity. According to Green, whenever something happens that somebody doesn’t understand, that person needs to hold onto what they do understand.”

Green stated that Jesus called Peter “Satan” to draw attention to how Peter was trying to thwart God’s plans. “The last thing we want to hinder is God’s plans,” Green said, before stating that Peter was looking at things from a humanistic sense. “Sometimes we can’t change things, but we can change our own perspective.”

He referred to Luke 9:23. “Jesus was saying that no matter the pain, no matter the circumstances, we need to follow him,” Green said, “That’s what the cross is.” He added that no Christian will have to carry their cross alone. “Jesus will be with you no matter what you go through,” Green said.

Voices of Truth led worship for the service.
