Rev. Bucky Kennedy
“If God keeps up with every star in the sky, do you really think we can get away with something?” Rev. Bucky Kennedy asked during the October 15 chapel service.  Kennedy is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Vidalia. (Photo by Lauren Moye)

MOUNT VERNON—Rev. Bucky Kennedy returned to Brewton-Parker College October 15 to preach his second sermon in his four week series. He opened by sharing his testimony. Kennedy attended Georgia Southern University when God convicted him about his lifestyle. Kennedy stated, “The first thing that happened to me [after salvation] was that I got kicked out of Georgia Southern.”

After Georgia Southern, Kennedy started college at BPC. He shared his initial experience at the Christian college by describing how two girls asked if he liked to party. “Initially,” Kennedy said, “I thought it was a test.” He responded that he had been saved a few weeks earlier and that he didn’t party anymore.

“You’re a preacher boy?” the girls responded, “What a waste.”

Kennedy based his message on Luke 9:23 and told the chapel congregation that the message would be “How you live your life when you’re in love with Jesus.” As part of the message, he used “daily” as an acronym.

For his message, he only went through the letters “d” and “a”. “First thing you’ve got to do is develop discipline,” Kennedy said. Discipline, in turn, contained three different points: consistency, clarity, and credibility. “Do you have a clear purpose in your life?” Kennedy asked, “That’s clarity.”

He also stated that the “a” stood for accountability. According to Kennedy, accountability means that individuals are responsible for their behavior as Christians. Kennedy said this about accountability, “If God keeps up with every star in the sky, do you really think we can get away with something?”

Andrew Fountain also returned as the guest musician.
