MOUNT VERNON—Members of the Brewton-Parker College Barons Basketball Team volunteered at J.D. Dickerson Primary School Monday, Sept. 6 as the students taught the players the story of “Pete the Cat” and the song that goes along with the story.

According to Barons Head Basketball Coach Jarvis Smith, “After story time, we all went outside for recess.  The kids enjoyed playing on the goals, and being able to dunk the ball as they were picked up. The girls started off very shy, but by the end of recess they were as excited as the boys. It was a great opportunity for the players to talk to younger kids and help them to discover the importance of learning, rules, and hard work.”

The Brewton-Parker Barons Basketball Team would like to thank J.D. Dickerson Primary School and Mrs. K. Taylor’s Pre-K class for giving the student-athletes an opportunity to give back to the community.
