MOUNT VERNON—Rev. Jeremy Morton, BPC alum and Senior Pastor of Cartersville Baptist Church, was the featured guest speaker during Brewton-Parker College’s Jan. 14 chapel service.

Morton based his sermon on Luke 18:14 “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” While speaking about the Parable of the Widow and the Parable of the Tax Collector (Luke 18), he told the congregation, “The only way to be right with God is to humbly appeal to God for mercy.” He went on to explain how the Pharisee didn’t leave the temple right with God, but he tax collector did. “If you humble yourselves, you will be blessed,” he said. “God wants to plant you and use you. Make sure you’re ready.”

Rev. Morton earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christianity from Brewton-Parker in 2004, a Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2007, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Praise and worship music was provided by BPC’s Voices of Truth. BPC Music Professor Dr. David Wilson also provided a solo for the service.

Chapel is open to the community and held weekly at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays.
