MOUNT VERNON— Eighteen Ugandan children visited Brewton-Parker College – not once, but twice – on their Mujiza Tour of North America. The children are members of the Ugandan Children’s Choir, which is sponsored by Helping Hands Foreign Missions. It was stated that the tour was a way to say ‘thank you’ to the individuals who give money to sponsor underprivileged children throughout the world. However, the tour had another purpose in sharing how God had saved the children’s lives, sometimes literally. This is fitting with the name of the tour: ‘mujiza’ means ‘miracle’ in Swahili.

The Ugandan Children’s Choir performed on March 10 in place of the usual BCM oasis service. They also performed for the March 11 chapel service. In response to a tweet, Courtney Bridges stated her favorite part about the children’s choir was, “Their energy and love for the Lord!” Their zeal for worshipping the Lord dominated their performances; joy showed on each of the children’s faces as they danced and sang praises.

Lauren Youmans, Campus Minister of Baptist Collegiate Ministries stressed their worshipful attitude by saying, “What you just saw is pretty much how worship is in Uganda. For them, this is not a performance; it’s an act of worship.”

Photos of BPC students with the children flooded social media after the chapel performance. However, the students, faculty, and staff of BPC also impacted the children. After their BCM performance, Youmans asked Coach Jarvis Smith if they could borrow some basketballs to play with the children.

Smith responded with, “Basketballs? Sure. You’ve got a whole team down there. I just gave them all jerseys!”
