Lady Barons at Home Tuesday After Long Road Stretch
By the time the Brewton-Parker volleyball team finishes play Saturday in La
Grange College's tournament, the Lady Barons will have played five dual matches
and in two tournaments since their last home date.
When the Lady Barons play Wesleyan College on Tuesday night, they hope to find
themselves competing in the college's new gem of a facility.
If the facility is ready for use, the Lady Barons will be the first
Brewton-Parker team to play in BPC's new Student Activities Center when they
play Tuesday in the first of three home duals in five days next week.
The teams will play in Parker Gymnasium if the center is not ready for
competition.
They entered this week with an 11-4 record after finishing second in the
Wesleyan Tournament in Macon, losing a pair of hard-fought but heartbreaking
five-game matches to Huntingdon (Ala.) College, Lady Barons coach Jason Bryant
said.
Brewton-Parker opened tourney play Friday with a 3-0 win over Southeastern
(Fla.) College before falling to Huntingdon on a 15-10 count in the final game.
The Lady Barons then swept Wesleyan 3-0 on Saturday to set up a rematch against
Huntingdon, which Southeastern extended to five games before falling 15-13.
Huntingdon survived an even tighter match with a 15-12 win in the final game of
the title match.
"We lost a heartbreaker again. Those were really tough matches, but the girls
played well," Bryant said. "Huntingdon seemed to play with so much heart and
determination, it was unbelievable. They really are to be commended for the job
they did. Our girls are to be commended as well. They played well."
Prior to the tournament, the Lady Barons scored a 3-0 win Sept. 17 at Claflin
College in Orangeburg, S.C.
This week, Brewton-Parker traveled to Jacksonville, Fla., to play Trinity
College on Tuesday night and will be at La Grange's Reebok/Coca-Cola Tournament
on Friday and Saturday.
After Tuesday's return home against Wesleyan, the Lady Barons' first home match
since Sept. 5, they will play at either the Student Activities Center or in
Parker Gymnasium against Claflin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3 and Southern Wesleyan
(S.C.) University on Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
