BPC Professor Named to Colloquium on U.S. Constitution

MOUNT VERNON - Dr. Sid Johnson, professor of political science at Brewton-Parker College, will serve as one of 15 participants for a colloquium on "The Constitution and Liberty" at a Liberty Fund conference. The panel for the conference, which is Sept. 12-14 in Chattanooga, Tenn., consists of scholars, practitioners and judges from all parts of the United States.

"The conference's format encourages the exploration of ideas and central concepts involved in the debate over the ratification of the Constitution of the United States and the enduring wisdom regarding liberty that resulted from the debates," Johnson said. Johnson said that an additional goal of the colloquium is to formulate a publication recording a symposium of the ideas presented. He added that Edwin Meese, U.S. attorney general under former President Ronald Reagan, also will be among the participants of the conference, which is sponsored by Lee University and the Liberty Fund. H. Lee Cheek Jr. of Lee University, a former professor of political science at Brewton-Parker, is the director of the colloquium.

The Liberty Fund is a tax-exempt, private operating foundation based in Indianapolis, Ind. It conducts a continuing program of education and publishing activities. The aim of the foundation's various activities is "to encourage the exploration of human liberty and those institutional arrangements that support it."
