Lady Barons get rested before home stretch
With its regular season ending this week, the Brewton-Parker College
volleyball team entered the week with seven days' rest on the heels of a stretch
in which the Lady Barons won eight of their last nine matches.
The Lady Barons completed their nonconference schedule Oct. 28 with a 3-0 win
over Spelman College, an NCAA Division II team Brewton-Parker also swept in the
squads' two other meetings.
"Nobody's ever easy, but we have nothing but tough ones from here on out," said
Brewton-Parker coach Jason Bryant, whose team earned its 21st 3-0 sweep with the
win at the Student Activities Center. "We played all right."
The Lady Barons then scored a 3-1 win on their home court over Faulkner
University the following evening to avenge an earlier Georgia-Alabama-Carolina
Conference loss at Montgomery, Ala.
In a reversal of the teams' first match, Faulkner won the first game before
Brewton-Parker caught fire and swept the next three games to win the match.
"After we came out with little intensity and lost the first game, I did what I
could to somewhat make them mad," Bryant said. "Then we won the next three
games.
"I thought the girls played really hard and really well. It was a huge
conference win for us."
Brewton-Parker entered this week with a 29-9 record and 2-4 in conference action
with two GACC matches remaining.
The Lady Barons closed out their home schedule Tuesday night looking to avenge
an earlier defeat to Georgia Southwestern State University and continue to
improve on their school-record number of victories, which had been 19 from last
fall.
They complete the regular season with a trip to Gainesville on Friday to play
Brenau University in a quest to complete a two-match sweep of the Golden Tigers.
The five conference teams then will convene in Montgomery on Nov. 14-16 for the
GACC postseason tournament.
