Lady Barons sweep Emmanuel on diamond
MOUNT VERNON -- The Brewton-Parker College softball team's doubleheader sweep at Emmanuel College on Friday lifted the Lady Barons to equaling the number of conference and overall victories achieved last season.
The Lady Barons exploded late in the first game of the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference twin bill to take a 16-1 win and held on in the nightcap for a 5-4 victory to complete the sweep in Franklin Springs.
The wins increase Brewton-Parker's overall record to 15-3 and to 3-1 in the GACC, with all the conference games thus far against the Lady Lions.
Senior Lyndsay Gomme (4-1) pitched a two-hitter over six innings in the first game, getting three hits of support from junior Jaime Murrant and defensive support from senior catcher Alissa Vogt with pickoff plays at first and second bases.
"A lot of people hit the ball well in the first game," Lady Barons coach Jason Bryant said.
Junior Kelly Hamilton (4-2) tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap that she completed with a strikeout.
"We got big hits from Ashley Todd and Rachel Harper," Bryant said.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Barons completed their second dominating sweep of Voorhees College with wins of 18-1 and 20-4 in Denmark, S.C.
Freshman Emily Woodard (2-0) was the winner of first game and Harper (2-0) won the second game.
The Lady Barons travel to Montgomery, Ala., for a GACC doubleheader Friday against Faulkner University beginning at 2 p.m. Brewton-Parker returns home Tuesday, March 18, for a conference twin bill against Georgia Southwestern State University starting at 2 p.m.
