BPC Hymn Festival planned for March 23
MOUNT VERNON -- A festival of hymns that follows the theme of "Tell Me the Story
of Jesus" is planned at Brewton-Parker College on Sunday, March 23.
The Hymn Festival in Saliba Chapel begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
The entire service will be music sung by the congregation and a combined choir
of about 150 voices composed of church choirs throughout the area and the
Brewton-Parker Concert Choir and Choral Society.
"Selected hymns tell of the prophecy of Christ's coming, His birth, epiphany,
passion, death, resurrection and the Great Commission, as well as hymns about
the church, Christ's love for us and how our music is used to glorify God," said
Dr. Mark Bowdidge, assistant professor of music at Brewton-Parker.
The list of hymns includes "Rejoice the Lord is King", "Tell Me the Story of
Jesus", "Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus", "Joy to the World", "Brightest and
Best", "O Worship the King", "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", "The Old Rugged
Cross", "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", "Breathe on Me", "Christ Has Made the
Sure Foundation", "I Stand Amazed in the Presence" and "When In Our Music God Is
Glorified."
Dr. Pierce Dickens, assistant professor of music at Brewton-Parker, will be the
organist for the festival and will be joined in accompaniment by the BPC Brass
Choir.
