Barons' King garners GACC Player of Week honor; games rained
out
With their three games rained out
for the week, Brewton-Parker College baseball coach Chad Parker and the Barons
received some welcomed good news from the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference.
Sophomore centerfielder Johnny King was named GACC Player of the Week for his
performances in three games during the week of March 9-15.
King batting .667 during the week, with six hits in nine trips to the plate. He
scored three runs, hit two doubles and one home run and had three RBI.
In the Barons' 8-5 win over North Georgia College and State University on March
11, King was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI. King also
was hit by a pitch and tallied 14 total bases in the game.
King is a native of Teutopolis, Ill., and a transfer to Brewton-Parker from
Olney Central College in Olney, Ill.
Brewton-Parker's non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Georgia College and
State University in Milledgeville, which was postponed from February because of
weather, was canceled after early-week rain. Parker secured a doubleheader at
Berry College in Rome to replace the Georgia College games but it too was washed
out.
Then, Thursday's single non-conference game at Augusta State University was
postponed to April 14.
The Barons' next home action is Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader
against Warner Southern University (Fla.) beginning at 3 p.m. Warner Southern
earned a No.11 ranking in the first NAIA season ratings released March 19.
Brewton-Parker then plays host to GACC leader and No. 4 ranked Auburn
University-Montgomery (Ala.) Friday, March 28, in a 6 p.m. game and Saturday,
March 29, in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
