Hornets sting Barons in GACC game before rain washes out
doubleheader
Brewton-Parker College's conference series against Southern Polytechnic State
University lasted just one game Friday when rain washed out Saturday's
doubleheader.
Southern Poly won Friday's game 5-1, with Hornets junior pitcher Jeramie Brown
allowing the Barons just one run on a sixth-inning home run by sophomore Johnny
King.
Saturday's doubleheader portion of the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference
series was not rescheduled as of early this week.
Southern Poly scored the game's first two runs in the fifth inning before Brown
allowed King's sixth-inning homer, his first of the season.
The Hornets scored one run in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth to
finish the scoring.
"That guy shut us down" Brewton-Parker pitching coach Mike Rodgers said of
Brown, who struck out 10 Barons while scattering seven hits.
King went 2-for-4 at the plate and junior Eric Prevatt was 2-for-3 for the
Barons (14-8 overall, 5-5 GACC).
Sophomore left-hander Trae Wiggins (1-6) pitched 7-1/3 innings for the Barons,
allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) with seven strikeouts and four
walks. Sophomore right-hander Ashley Hooks allowed the two ninth-inning runs in
1-2/3 innings of relief.
Brewton-Parker's schedule this week begins with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday
at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville followed by a 3 p.m.
game Thursday at Augusta State University.
The Barons' next home action is Tuesday, March 25, with a non-conference
doubleheader against Warner Southern University (Fla.) beginning at 3 p.m.
