Lady Barons earn sweep at Edward Waters

Brewton-Parker College’s softball record grew by two more victories with a doubleheader sweep Tuesday over Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Fla.

The Lady Barons (22-4) needed a seventh-inning rally to edge past Edward Waters 5-4 in the first game but had an easier time in the nightcap with a 9-2 win.

In the opener, freshman Kelly Phillips’ two-run hit highlighted a three-run rally in the seventh inning that lifted Brewton-Parker from a 4-2 deficit.

Senior Ali Furgala fueled the Lady Barons’ offense by going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.

Senior Lyndsay Gomme improved to 7-2 with the pitching victory after tossing three innings in relief.

Furgala had two more hits in the second game, while freshman Emily Woodard (3-0) earned the win.
