4 Barons receive GACC postseason baseball awards
MOUNT VERNON -- Two members of the Brewton-Parker College baseball team earned
All-Conference honors and two others were selected to the All-Academic Team by
the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference.
Denson Gleaton was named to the All-Conference Team at first base but also
played in the outfield for the Barons, while Johnny King was named as an
outfielder while playing primarily in center field for Brewton-Parker.
Outfielder Jonathan Davis and infielder Miles Zachary qualified for the GACC's
All-Academic Team.
Gleaton is a 6-foot-3, 250-pound graduate of Shaw High School in Columbus and
transferred to Brewton-Parker after playing at Gordon College. He was named GACC
and NAIA Region XIII Player of the Week for the week of April 7-13.
Through 37 games, Gleaton batted.328 with 41 base hits and team highs of eight
home runs, 46 RBI and a slugging percentage of .597. Gleaton also had just three
errors in 199 fielding plays (.985 percentage) with a team-high 181 putouts.
King is a 6-1, 185-pound native of Teutopolis, Ill., and a transfer to
Brewton-Parker from Olney Central College in Olney, Ill. He was named GACC
Player of the Week for his performances in three games during the week of March
9-15.
Through 32 games, King posted a .408 batting average with a team-high 42 hits,
including 10 doubles, and 32 runs scored, along with two home runs, 22 RBI and a
slugging percentage of .583. King also was perfect on 67 fielding opportunities,
including 63 putouts.
Zachary, a junior from Lyons, made the All-Academic Team with a 3.36 grade point
average as a major in business. Zachary, a graduate of Robert Toombs Christian
Academy, had a .204 batting average in 23 games, 14 as a starter, with seven RBI
after he transferred to Brewton-Parker from Mercer University.
Davis, a sophomore from Savannah, qualified by compiling a 3.31 GPA as an
education major. On the field, Davis hit .305 with 21 runs scored and three home
runs in 30 games, 19 as a starter.
