Chapman Voice Competition planned for April 25 at BPC
Brewton-Parker College's inaugural Virginia Chapman Voice Competition is planned
for Friday, April 25, 8 p.m. in the Gilder Recital Hall of the Miller Music
Building on the Brewton-Parker campus.
The competition is presented by the Brewton-Parker Division of Music to
recognize artistic achievement and development among Brewton-Parker voice
majors.
A $1,000 prize, donated by George Chapman in memory of his wife, Virginia, will
be awarded to the winner.
Competitors are: Jeffrey Brazell, sophomore music education major; Steven
Dawson, sophomore voice performance major; Joshua Hartley, junior voice
performance major; Heather LeCompte, sophomore music education major; and John
Wolters, junior voice performance major. All will be accompanied by Kathy
Rogers, piano.
Judges for the competition are: Mollie Rich, retired professor of voice at
Stetson University; Barbara Dean, retired professor of voice at Mercer
University Atlanta; and William Toole, retired professor of voice at Augusta
State University.
All judges are distinguished performers and teachers of singing whose students
have won numerous competitions and awards and are currently performing in major
venues around the world.
Admission to the competition is free and open to the general public.
