BPC Choral Society to perform cantatas Nov. 4
MOUNT VERNON -- The first performance of the Brewton-Parker College Choral
Society's 2003-04 season is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 4, Choral Society Director
Mark Bowdidge has announced.
The performance will be at 8 p.m. in Saliba Chapel on the BPC campus. Admission
to the concert is free.
The Choral Society, which is composed of 50 members that include both
Brewton-Parker students and community participants, will present a program title
"Songs of Praise" and will include Franz Schubert's Mass in G, C.H.H. Parry's I
Was Glad and Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs featuring Dr. T.N.
Retif, professor of music at Brewton-Parker, as guest soloist.
The Choral Society's next performance will be Dec. 7, when it joins all the
Brewton-Parker music ensembles in the presentation of a Service of Lessons and
Carols, performing "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" from Bach's Mass in B minor.
The season will conclude with a performance of Felix Mendelssohn's dramatic
oratorio, Elijah on April 25.
The Brewton-Parker Choral Society is a non-audition choral ensemble open to all
members of the community. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. in the Gilder
Recital Hall of the Miller Music Building on the Brewton-Parker College campus.
