Brewton-Parker Student Receives Cason Memorial Ministerial
Award
MOUNT VERNON - Quentin Jermaine Morris, a Brewton-Parker College student at the
college's Liberty County campus in Hinesville, was awarded a $600 scholarship
from the Durward V. Cason Fund and Georgia Baptist Convention for the fall
semester.
Morris is a junior from Claxton who is majoring in ministry. He is a continuing
student in the external program. Morris received a similar scholarship for the
fall 2002 and spring 2003 semesters.
The Durward V. Cason Jr. Memorial Fund was established in 1958 equips
African-American students who live in Georgia who are preparing for service as a
pastor, missionary or other church-related vocations such as minister of music,
education or youth, chaplain, Christian social minister or professional
Christian Counselor.
The Memorial Fund honors the life of Durward V. Cason Jr., who had committed
himself to prepare for service as a medical missionary in Africa until he
tragically drowned in December 1957. The fund has grown from the original gift
of $135 to more than $250,000.
