Brewton-Parker to present Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 7
MOUNT VERNON - The Brewton-Parker College division of music will present its
second annual Festival of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 7.
Numerous Brewton-Parker College music ensembles and college-connected lectors
will combine to present the seasonal service, announced Dr. Mark Bowdidge,
conductor of the College Choir and Choral Society and coordinator for the event.
Musical ensembles performing in the service include the Baron Ringers, Baron
Singers, Brass Ensemble, Choral Society, Concert Choir, Percussion Ensemble and
Wind Ensemble. Selections to be performed include the favorite Christmas carols
for congregation and choir as well as seasonal music presented by each of the
ensembles.
Nine lessons will be read from the Bible, beginning with the fall of man in the
Garden of Eden in Genesis and concluding with the incarnation of Christ in the
Gospel of John.
The program is free and begins at 3 p.m. in Saliba Chapel.
The service, established in the early part of the 20th century at King's College
Cambridge, consists of the reading of God's Word and music commenting on the
text. Ensembles and congregation will participate in the musical presentation.
