Lady Barons' season ends in regionals
MOUNT VERNON -- Brewton-Parker College's first venture into NAIA regional
volleyball play was short-lived but still a worthwhile experience for the Lady
Barons and coach Jason Bryant.
The Lady Barons lost both their matches in pool play Friday, Nov. 21, both by
3-0 counts after Bryant said they played well in the first games of each match.
The fifth-seeded Lady Barons were paired against top-seeded Spring Hill College
(Ala.) and third-seeded Faulkner University (Ala.), which defeated
Brewton-Parker twice in winning the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference
postseason tournament at BPC on Nov. 13-15.
"We played pretty well in both first games, but we didn't come back out for
either match with the same confidence," said Bryant, whose team finished the
year with a 25-19 record.
"But we were glad to be there. The experience our girls had, especially by the
underclassmen, should help us in the future and give us a shot to win and not
just be happy to make it."
Spring Hill and Faulkner won their respective semifinal matches to make
Saturday's championship match, with Spring Hill winning again 3-0.
"We had a great year," Bryant said of the Lady Barons' second straight 20-win
season and a school-best 7-5 record in GACC play. "We overcame some early
adversity and injuries, with the freshmen stepping up the way they did and the
upperclassment stepping up more than they had already."
