Submission Guidelines

The Oracle is a literary journal published by Brewton-Parker College’s English Department to promote writing of both students and the general public. We accept fiction, non-fiction, flash fiction, poetry, photography, and visual art. Submissions will be accepted through mail by postage date of April 22, and through web by May 2 at If you would like to submit a piece, feel free to mail or email it in along with a $5 reading fee in the form of a check which will only be charged upon the acceptance of the piece. We will notify you within 6 to 8 weeks to inform you whether or not we have accepted your piece. Publishing will take place in August, and the journal will be sold on Brewton-Parker Campus as well as Please do not submit any work that has been previously published, and consider in your writing that we are a Christian school, and the use of profane language and lewd topics should only be used when critical to emphasize the meaning of the piece.

    All submissions must be typed in a MLA Format and in a Times New Roman, 12 point, double spaced font and include the name and title of the piece at the top right of the first page. The maximum limit for each division are as follows:

  • fiction - 5-8 pages, roughly 1250 to 2000 words

  • non-fiction -  5-8 pages, roughly 1250 to 2000 words

  • flash fiction - up to 4 pages or 1000 words

  • poetry - must not exceed two printed pages

  • visual art - one image per submission
